Helping the juniors from Weymouth Angling Club

During the summer months we had the pleasure of hosting a number of evening fishing trips for the juniors from Weymouth Angling Society. Used to catching smaller species of fish from Weymouth’s piers, this fantastic group of youngsters had plenty of fishing experience but few had been on a boat before. So, we teamed up with Billy Short, the clubs Chairman and headed out with the intention of introducing the next generation of anglers to boat fishing!

New Species

Over the course of these trips, the juniors learned a number of new techniques and skills. These included, using a multiplier reel, tying traces and bait preparation. They all did a fantastic job and we landed a variety of species including Rays, Bream, Dogfish, Conger Eels, Mackerel and Skad.

We were lucky to catch a number of Undulate Rays, which Billy photographed to send to the Undulate Ray Project, an organisation collecting photographs of their unique markings in order to identify and track individual rays movement.
